Koyikkal Palace: One of the Famous Heritage Palace of Thiruvananthapuram


The Koyikkal Palace which is one of the important heritage attractions in Kerala is visited by many tourists from across the world. The double story palace was the residence of Umayamma Rani who rules the kingdom from 1677 to 1684. If you’re staying at the hotels near Trivandrum railway station then you can reach the palace via cab very easily.



Architecture of Koyikkal Palace: The Koyikkal Palace is built with the Kerala style of architecture. The two-story building is a typical “nalukettu” which has a central courtyard open to the sky. This palace was built for Umayamma Rani who belonged to the Venad Royal Family.

Folklore and Numismatic Museum: The Koyikkal Palace is a place which is simply like heaven for history lovers and archaeologists. The Government of Kerala has set up two museums for the tourists; Folklore and Numismatic Museum. The former museum included the household utensils, musical instrument, folk art models and occupational implements whereas the latter consist of the coins which are from various parts and periods of the world.

Visiting hours: You are allowed to visit the Koyikkal Palace on all days except Mondays from 9 am to 5 pm. If you’re staying at Trivandrum hotels then you can easily reach the palace via cab as the place just 18km away from Thiruvananthapuram.
