Lalitha Mahal: A Must Visit Sight in Mysore

Mysore is a beautiful city in the state of Karnataka and is located in the foothills of the Chamundi Hills towards the southwest of Bangalore. The Lalitha Mahal or Lalitha Palace is known to be the second largest palace in Mysore. The Lalitha Mahal was built by Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV. Initially, it was built for the victory of India which now serves as one of the besthotels in Mysore now.

The architecture of the palace has been inspired by St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. The palace’s architecture is a mixture of several other architectural forms from Europe. The lobby and the corridors of the palace have been decorated with beautiful paintings of Mysore rulers and historical events that took place in the Mysore Kingdom. The palace is recognized by its white colour which is visible from afar.

The palace is marinated and adorned with a luscious garden. People who have visited the palace have reviewed that the best part about the palace is its restaurant block which has a curved roof and glass dome at the centre followed by the splendid architectural interest of the Mysore rulers.

After the independence, the Lalitha Mahal became a property of the State Government of Karnataka and they decided to turn this palace into a royal five-star hotel which is maintained by the Indian Tourist Development Corporation. This palace serves as a popular spot for local film shoots and social gatherings.

If you’re visiting and staying at budgethotels near Mysore railway station, make sure you visit the Lalitha Mahal to experience the beauty of the palace and also to understand the mystique of royal Mysore.
