Aga
Khan III or Sir Sultan Muhammed Shah Aga Khan III was the 48th Imam
of Khoja Ismaili Muslims. He was known was his active participation
and working towards the rights of Muslims in India. He was the
founder of All India Muslim League. Aga Khan IV, the grandson of Aga
Khan III donated the Aga Khan Palace to the people of India in 1969.

- Palace turned Prison: Aga Khan Palace, situated in the beautiful quaint neighbourhood of Yerwada in Pune which served as the prison to Mahatma Gandhi along with Kasturba Gandhi and the other freedom fighters from August 1942 to 1944. - Samadhi: A corner of the Aga Khan Palace serves as the Samadhi dedicated to Kasturba Gandhi and Mahatma Gandhi’s secretary Mahadev Desai. Both of them died on the premises of the same palace turned prison.
- Mahatma Gandhi’s Room: It’s said that the rooms Mahatma Gandhi was in have not been touched till date. The books, clothes, writing desk, letters, and even his spectacles are still lying in the very room. Whereas his wife’s possessions are preserved and displayed for the public.
- Architecture: The Palace is set up in a peacefully wooded plot of northeast Pune. If we talk about the architecture of the palace it is inclined towards Islamic. The Aga Khan Palace also has hints of Italian architecture, with its many arches. The palace includes five halls and large verandahs.

as the monument of national importance, Aga Khan Palace is one of the
most famous tourist spots in Pune and hence is a must visit. It’s
open throughout the week leaving the national holidays. You can visit
